REC tells FCC expand LPFM in urban areas and stop translator abuse

By admin | 3:00 AM EDT, Tue September 06, 2011

REC Networks has filed comments with the Federal Communications Commission regarding Low Power FM radio and FM Translators. In comments, REC promotes a modified version of the FCC's "Channel Floor" solution for implementing the "community need" aspect of the Local Community Radio Act of 2010.

REC addressed the following:

Counting existing LPFM stations in channel floors
REC opposes counting the existing LPFM stations in computing "channel floors" due to disparity in favor of FM translators.

Statement of REC Networks: DOJ petition to block AT&T/T-Mobile merger

By admin | 12:16 PM EDT, Wed August 31, 2011

The Department of Justice has seen through all of the song and dance that AT&T has been doing lately. The writing on the wall is clear. The AT&T takeover of T-Mobile is anti-competitive as it will eliminate the only competing GSM carrier which in turn will create an even more captive audience in the international roaming market.

A merger of AT&T and T-Mobile would have also eliminated many redundant jobs across the board from call centers and retail stores to middle management.

FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski in his statement said today that "competition fosters customer benefits, including more choices, better service and lower prices." REC could not agree more.
