The Media Bureau of the Federal Communications Commission has reached what is believed to be the first in up to three decisions on the LPFM stations that would eventually be referred to as the “Charlottesville 5”.

The Charlottesville 5 stations included WREN-LP, WXRK-LP, WVAI-LP and WPVC-LP, all licensed to Charlottesville, VA; as well as WKMZ-LP, Ruckersville, VA.  The licenses of WPVC-LP and WKMZ-LP would be subsequently cancelled and therefore, only three of the stations remain today.

This evening, the 2024 Grassroots Radio Conference begins in New Orleans, LA.  Before every GRC, a lot of planning, resources and overall sweat equity goes into the creation of these gatherings.  For LPFM, the GRC represents a gathering of like minded people where unlike NABSHOW, is not overwhelming with other technologies or NFCB, does not break the bank.  

I completely agree with the Audio Division's position denying the Albert David Informal Objection and granting the Construction Permit.

As one who used to listen to ACBRI, I know of Jim Pemberton's history, and he has had a long history and desire to make radio through his involvement with the streaming projects of the American Council of the Blind.

The rules do give some leeway to allow for someone other than the board member to sign an application where the regular signatory has a disability.

Today, the Federal Register has published the FCC's inquiry in CB Docket 24-245 regarding the various regulations that the FCC adopted within approximately the past 10 years in order to determine if they should be continued without change, amended or rescinded in order to minimize any significant impacts that the rules may have on a substantial number of entities.
