With Thursday's Closing Bell for U.S. financial markets, the mood was decisively glum for Nexstar Media Group shareholders, as "NXST" finished the day at $154.70 — a $13.27 decline from Wednesday. As Friday's trading session entered its final hour, the Nasdaq-traded stock had started to slice away at yesterday's big dip.

With Kalil & Co. serving as the exclusive broker in the transaction, Curtis Media Group in late April filed paperwork with the FCC seeking its approval of a deal that would see it acquire four FMs, one AM and two FM translators in the Wilmington-New Bern-Jacksonville, N.C. market. The Commission has OK'd the deal.

As 2026 began, the Enforcement Bureau notified the individual identified as the operator of an unlicensed FM radio station that he would face a possible fine for $20,000 for his illegal activity. The Commission has just affirmed that proposed fine, while simultaneously issuing two proposed forfeiture notices to a pair of other radio pirates.

Now, Gray Media, which entered this Deep South locale through its Raycom merger eight years ago, is adding a low-power FOX affiliate to the mix. Kalil & Co. served as the seller's broker of record.

The judge overseeing the plan to emerge from debtor-in-possession status submitted by Spanish Broadcasting System has been given the green light, putting the wheels in motion for the company founded in 1983 by supermajority owner and equity interest holder Raúl Alarcón Jr. to reorganize SBS.

A public interest organization has been joined by a "group of concerned citizens" in filing a Petition to Deny the early license renewals of ABC Owned Stations' properties. To be clear, Media Action Center and Frequency Forward are not trying to block the stations' license renewals. Rather, they see the action as the lone way to gain standing.

Media companies weren't immune to the declines for seen by such tech brethren as Apple, Microsoft and Meta, with Sinclair shares falling on Thursday by $1.09 per share to $12.94 and Gray Media slipping $0.37 per share to $3.58. It is the Nexstar Media Group slide that may have some industry observers jittery.
