REC's goal is to assure a citizen's access to the airwaves. Over the years, we have supported various aspects of non-commercial microbroadcast efforts including LPFM, Low Power AM and other concepts to allocate spectrum for one way communications.
REC feels that as many organizations as possible should be able to enjoy the ability of spreading their message to their local community. It is our desire to see a diverse selection of voices on the dial spanning race, culture, language, sexual orientation and gender identity. This also includes a mix of faith-based and secular voices.
REC feels that attempts by larger organizations to infiltrate the LPFM service under the guise of questionable local presence undermines the Commission's goal of localism as well as the many years of hard work that many of us had put into making last month's LPFM filing window a reality.
In the past, REC had intervened during the first LPFM filing windows. REC was also the first to discover the filing trends during the Auction 83 window that lead to the declaration of the "Great Translator Invasion" and the subsequent FCC actions.
REC is currently investigating many applications that may be a part of larger organizations who are attempting to undermine the localism of the LPFM service.
We are not prepared to give any additional information at this time.
