For over a decade, the REC LPFM Channel Search tool has been providing information to prospective LPFM applicants as well as support to existing licensees. One aspect of the tool was the maps that provided engineering information in a graphical form. These maps were provided by a public domain service provided by the US Census Bureau.
The Census Bureau has recently discontinued the TIGER Mapping Service that the LPFM Tool has used for that long citing information on the tool is extremely outdated (it was 1990 Census data).
Since the online TIGER mapping service is created, API based mapping from other sources including Google Maps had become available. The REC Broadcast Query (FMQ) Tool uses Google mapping.
Due to our current resource load as well as potential changes to the LPFM service in the future and no upcoming filing windows as well as our pending facility move, we are unable to make fixes to the LPFM Tool in an expedient manner at this time. The search results, channel reports, etc. are still valid. Only the mapping services are not available.
We will do what we can but for now, please continue to use the tool knowing that mapping services are not available. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this disruption but at the same time, we thank the US Census Bureau for providing which was at the time, a very innovative online mapping service.
Please keep checking the REC website (recnet.com) for updates.
UPDATE: A Google Maps solution is now online.
